Wall & Roof Insulation Options

Wall insulation:

  • Can I make my log home more energy efficient?
  • Can the log walls be insulated?
  • Can I increase the R-value of the logs?
  • The answer is yes to all of these questions.  If you are seeking a higher R-value, we offer two options that will significantly increase your homes energy efficiency.

Polyisocyanurate (foil faced foam) R-6.5 per 1”

  • The interior log walls are strapped (1x2 furring strips 2’ O.C.)
  • Cavity is filled with 2x8 sheets of rigid foil faced foam board (Polyisocyanurate)
  • Final wall covering is applied (usually tongue and groove Cedar)
  • You can place up to 2” of insulation board
  • This will add an R-14.5 increase to your log wall

Other advantages to adding log wall insulation:

  • Time and money are saved by not having to drill the log walls for electrical. A shallow groove can be routered into the log wall for the electrical wires to be recessed behind the insulation board.
  • Log walls do not have to be sanded.

Roof insulation:

  • 6” of rigid foam (R-32.5) insulation (standard in purlin roof system)
  • Increased R-value upgrade available (R-6.5 per inch)
